ABOUT

I’m a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Before that, I completed a Masters Degree in Psychology at San Diego State University

My first career was in the Navy. I served in both active and reserve units, finishing up as Commanding Officer of Fighter Squadron 301. An incredible experience with incredible people.

My second career was with the federal government, where I managed research projects in human factors, decision-making, and automation.

During that time, I also taught engineering courses at the University of San Diego

Does that mean that science writing is a “third career?” Maybe, but it’s by far the most interesting work I’ve ever been involved with.

I’m interested in the people who do the science – what motivates them, how they approach problems, and how their efforts impact the rest of us.

Although I focus primarily on astronomy and space science, you’ll find bioengineering, earth science, and archaeology reporting on this site.
